Many of us have a social media presence — a virtual personality made up of status updates, tweets and connections, stored in the cloud. Adam Ostrow asks a big question: What happens to that personality after you've died? Could it ... live on?
As a Grade 8 student, how does having social media accounts affect your life? Does it benefit you more than it harm you or vice versa? Does social media teach you social responsibility or it causes you to be more socially insensitive? How does your social media presence affect you as a daughter, a friend, and a student? If you do not have social media accounts, what some observations do you see from your friends or family with social media accounts? Would you try to create one in the future? These are just some of the few questions that are usually associated in the use of social media sites. Answer these questions in two paragraph. Create your post by replying here. Just click REPLY then type your complete name as Guest Name then write your answer. You will then be directed to a captcha security check.Your answer may be in the form of persuasive (good at persuading someone to do or believe something through reasoning) or informative (providing useful or interesting information).
After creating your own post, wait for your classmates to finish their works so may respond and give comments to they have written. To give comment, choose the post of your classmate then click QUOTE. You may now write your reply to your classmates. You may choose a particular sentence or paragraph to quote from your classmate. You are required to give at least one comment to two of your classmates.
Below is the criteria for grading: Content - 10 Creativity and fluidity of thoughts - 10 Quality of responses to other posts - 5 Impact of write-up - 5 PR: 30
Once you created your own thread, copy the link and submit using the Turn-In button in our Edmodo account.
Have fun writing and expressing yourselves!!

Having a social media account is useful sometimes it's not. Social media is useful because they allow you to communicate with your fellow friends and families. Social media can give you access to any details of a person such as their posts and statuses. Having a social media account can make you responsible, responsibe enough to what your going to post and react to a post. And your being charge of what your posts are.
But social media can be harmful because you can experience cyber bullying and scams that are not suitable for your age. And you need to be aware of that. Social media can make you feel insecure and disappointed because you are being judge by others.

Social media can affect us in different ways. Social media can be useful for many but in some ways it can harm us. Harm us in many different ways. Yes we can say that it is useful for communication, research, interaction and many more. But one question that we should always remember, How does social media effect our lives? Let's talk about privacy and safety. We all need privacy but social media does not give the privacy we need. Millions and millions of people are expected to see everything about you using social media. Now about safety are we sure that we are safe when we use our social media accounts? The answer is no. Safety has a connection to our privacy. The private things that we should keep to ourselves can be shown in our social media accounts and with that our safety is affected. Not only with our privacy, bullying can happen online which we call cyber-bullying. It can affect our feelings and affect us in our daily lives.
One important thing we should know is to communicate with others. But not using social media because it won't teach us lessons. It will just teach us bad habits like not communicating socially. Yes we can say that we still communicate using social media but do you think that's the kind of communication we need? Using social media can affect ourselves being a daughter, a friend and a student. How? Well we won't be able to focus being a good daughter and a friend. They want you beside them but what we all do is use our social media accounts. You post, update your accounts and many more. One more thing is being a student we can't focus on our studies because what we all do are these things that won't help us in our lives. If I don't have any social media accounts and I see my friends and my family having social media accounts, well I won't bother myself making one because I know it won't help me. It will just distract me in everything I do. So we should ALWAYS remember to use social media WISELY.

In my opinion, having social media accounts can be useful at the same time it can be harmful to us. I think that social media accounts can benefit us more than harm us because the internet has almost all the information in everything. It is where we can gather our required data easily by just searching. I know that the internet can be dangerous to anybody. People will know who you are when they see your profile page, Whatever we send online will be seen by the public. People may hack you, strangers may message you and others may bully you which is also known as cyber-bullying online. For that, we should all be aware of that. As I said before, I think social media accounts can benefit us more than harm us because if we know that the internet is not safe, if we know that what we do should always be appropriate, and if we know our limitations, I know that we can learn how to avoid embarrassment and unsafe situations online. As long as we use the internet wisely, and we know how to interact with others appropriately, and we know what to report online, there will be no trouble.
Social media has taught me a lot of things. I learned how to be safe, I learned about friendship, I knew how to collect information for school, I discovered new objects on this planet, but most of all, I learned how to control myself. I did not only learn and communicate with the people I know, but also I slowly get close with nature. Remember, nature is part and will forever be part of us humans. I knew that people use gadgets way too much. As I watched the short clip by Adam Ostrow, imagine our world online with 200 million tweets, 48 hours of video uploaded in YouTube, and the average of a Facebook user posting 90 pieces of content per month. We should be doing more physical activities. We should be bonding with our friends and families outside. As a daughter, I know that it is my responsibility to obey my parents and to do my part at home. I should know on how long I can use my gadgets and balance my time mostly on social media. As an MC grade 8 student, whatever I do represents my school. Knowing that, I should always do my part in school, avoid getting involved or making conflicts online but instead, always do what is good. Everybody experienced arguments with friends. As a friend I also learned that I should think before replying to someone to avoid tough situations with my friends. I should be sensitive enough to everybody. As a friend, I always keep in mind that nobody deserves to be treated like an option, everybody deserves kindness. We humans should know that social media was meant for a good cause so use it well.

In my opinion, social media helps in a counted number of ways. First, communication. I am a student without a cellphone. I find messenger helpful when I want to tell someone something or when I want to know something from someone. Although I could use messenger, I don't always have wifi connection at home so the time I can chat is also limited. Second, getting updated. News about politics, sports, showbiz, and more, you could get it in social media. Not everyone watches news. But more log in on their account. In Twitter, you could tweet. In Instagram and Facebook, you could post. And Yahoo!News. Most people like posting what they feel on this specific topic so maybe, it will also be helpful to you. Third, entertainment. Like I said, many log in on their account so they post and post and post. Videos could be funny. Maybe not always but sometimes. Laughter is the best medicine. When something's funny, laugh. Where could you laugh? On the internet. In anyway anyone looks at the internet, or what anyone does on the internet, it depends on you, the user. Social media was not made to harmful. The same way knives were not made to be harmful. Social media is a powerful force that should be treated with care. So, I don't think social media is harmful. Maybe the ones who use it but not it. Don't copy those who do crimes on the internet because it is your responsibility to know when something is right or wrong. Social media does teach you responsibility. If it teaches you responsibility, you could teach others responsibility on the internet.
I have Facebook. I am 13 years old. I am not 18. I am not yet legally allowed to have an account. This is lying. I am lying. Commandment no. 8 states that we should be truthful. And I am not being truthful just because I think something's cool. In reconciliation, I always mention lying. It's the truth. But I don't want to lose my account. It's my only other way to communicate. Bad.

Social media is the 21st century's main medium of communication. It lets you talk with others and voice out your feelings to the public. Despite all these benefits, there are harmful things that can happen to us in using social media too much or not being aware of the things that might happen. A lot of things had happened in the past even if social media sites were just starting their careers. A lot of cases happened that may be minor, such as showing disrespect to someone through his or her status update, or something really big like somebody being murdered by someone he or she met in the internet. That is why, through social media, I learned how to be responsible of myself and to be safe. I remember my parents always telling me to never accept friend requests of people I don't know and to never message back strangers. I realized that their condition kept me safe in the internet and I hope other people who have social media accounts would be responsible too for the safety of the whole community.
Social media benefits me because it becomes a medium of communication that is really accessible and effortless. It lets you know what's happenning around you and how you could respond to such situations. To me, it serves more of a benefit because I learn a lot of things from my friends, websites, and different links that are posted. Using social media, made me learn how to filter what I see, and be more mature in the way I act. Another benefit social media gives me is the ability to research easily. It gives you a lot of answers in less than a minute. But again, I filter what I see so that I can save time. Having social media in my opinion, doesn't really affect me as an individual, nor it affects my duty as a daughter and friend. In fact, I can make more friends in the internet and meet new people. Although sometimes, I get to distracted in the internet, so control is really needed especially for young students like me. I believe that with the right control and usage of social media, it could become a happy, and safe place for the entire world to enjoy.

Social Media can affect you in many different ways. Sometimes it could be harmful and sometimes it could be very helpful, for example having a social media account, having one can affect your personal life, because every single day millions and millions of people experience cyber bullying and changes their emotions and how they see themselves. In social media a lot of people can judge you with all of your oppinions, and they only throw mean things about it online and if they come to you face to face I bet you they can't even say something mean about it because, in social media they come out as this brave person that just causes some trouble but in real life their this regular person that wouldn't even talk to you. So in my opinion if you don't know that person that your talking to personally don't take what they say seriously cause it will just affect everything.
But in a positive way, it could also be helpful, having one thought me how to be responsible and be aware with what I say or post, it thought me about friendship, it thought me about what the internet and how people act online. As a grade 8 student it is very useful for us to communicate with our fellow classmates and for us to be updated with what's happening around us. We could really use social media for our school reports, projects and research.

Social Media would not affect your life only if you know what is right or wrong. Social media harms you in a way because it can distract you from others things that you’re supposed to do. But it at the same time it will benefit if you know what to find and will also keep you in touch with friends and especially long distant loved ones. It will distort your mind because you will never know what’s coming and some people in social media post and reply in a bad manner, which will make you curious or change your opinions about things. But it could also make you responsible because you can learn from others’ mistakes.
I don’t have Social Media, but based on other people’s experiences, it will break your relationship with your family because it distracted them from things that they don’t need yet just check out for nothing and they ended up not having much it time for the people who they love. I would create an account just because I want to stay in touch with friends and family and to keep me updated about things that are happening around me, but I won’t make Social media a big part of my social life.

Social media was made for the benefit of communication. It depends on how you use and apply it, whether it would be something good or bad. This would be best shown in a student's perspective. By experience, I find it hard to concentrate on my homework when my Twitter or Tumblr is open, yet again I use the chats to ask advice from friends. I constantly go on Google but a few minutes later I find myself opening Hangouts and chatting with a friend. Social media affects me, and everyone, in beneficial and disadvantageous ways. Then again, I believe I've become slightly more insensitive and oblivious over the summer because of the excessive exposure to these websites. The things I thought that weren't as respectable before, are now simply said or done without hesitation and regret. Social media interferes with many relationships; centering on friendship and strangers. Things done on the internet could be watched by everyone, (despite the settings) and everything is a great risk to take. The closest relationships could be broken, just by a click.
(In my opinion) the choice of being given a responsibility to have an account then was great. Almost everyone around me had a Facebook and they seemed like very preppy and excitable people. They had a bad habit of using slang words and text language, and now I'm one of them. I'm not proud to admit it, but I use it to a medium and when I have to. Contrary to the popular belief, I don't see any of the overused stereotypes for people using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. and that's the good thing. The lesson? Use social media in the right time, right place, and in the right way.

As a grade 8 student, in my opinion social media can be used in many ways. First communicating with others. Facebook for example can be used to talking with your classmates when you need to copy the homework from the days you were absent. FaceTime and Skype can be used for calling your friends when you need help with homework and topics in Math, Science, English and etc. They can also be used to communicate with family members who are living abroad. Second we use it to keep updated with local and foreign news. It maybe about the Government, Sports or the Weather. Lastly it can be used for entertainment. Watching amusing videos can relieve stress. Stress that's from studying the whole week, relaxing with the use of entertainment is a good way to relieve stress. You can also re-watch old TV series or old movies in this website. Social media can both benefit you, if you are careful, and harm you, if you are not. It benefits you in ways such as it is a medium of communication or used as a research source. It can harm you with cyber-bullying, inappropriate contents and strangers who are prone to scam you.
Having a social media account has taught me many things. It has taught me how to be responsible on how long i should stay on the internet. Part on being responsible, it has taught me that posting hurtful things about others can affect myself also. Social media has opened my mind to new information in many things. Like people, even your non-friends, can see all the posts you post. Social media affects me as a student by acting as a distraction from my studies and homework. It affects me as a daughter by decreasing time with my family. With all the time I have wasted on Social media, I could've used that time to get to know my family's past better.

Social media has affected my life in both good and bad ways. As a grade 8 student, I find social media useful especially when it comes to communicating with other people far away from me. Also, through social media, I am updated with what is happening with other people's lives. Social , edia also helps me in school. Like if there were important announcements regarding projects or suspension of classes, or if I was absent and I needed the homework. But with all the benefits that we can get from social media, it could also harm us in a lot of ways.
Social media can be harmful too. For example, everyone including strangers can know and be updated with what you're doing through your post. In social media, strangers can even know yoir location and who you are with. Whenever you post somethinh in social media, it's like you're making your private life public, making everybody know about your life. Social media could be very useful and at the same time harmful. Social media was made to benefit us, but we should still be responsible and know what we are doing in social media.

In my opinion, having social media has taught me a lot of lessons. It has taught me to accept the truth and who i really am. It has also taught me not to believe in what SOME says. I also learned to be truthful myself, to remember that what will always keep me in the right track is truth. It both benefits and harms me. First, it benefits me because i can communicate with everyone anytime. It also keeps me in touch with far friends and families. It also makes my socializing skills better. It can help me express what i need to release in me. But it can be harmful too sometimes. Like making me distracted while i am studying. It can also be my top 5 temptations everyday. Also, random people can know what you are posting even if you're on private. They can track or hack you. This is why we should know what to post and not to post. Social media sometimes makes me a super lazy girl. Laziness is one of the seven capital sins and i know it's bad but it's a temptation and i SOMETIMES do not know how to control myself.
The only popular social media that i do not have is Facebook. I can notice that the people that have fb is making their lives public. Sometimes they do not know what are the necessary things that they need to post. Also some are sharing too much information about their lives and their routines in life.
