I don't have a social media account but in my observations of my friends and family who have accounts, there are a lot of benefits and disadvantages. Some of the benefits are learning new things, sharing information from photographs to artworks, communicating with friends and family and meeting new people. The disadvantages of using Social Media is that one can easily get distracted from what needs to be done, especially schoolwork. Also one can get sick due to staying up late often and straining of the eyes from too much exposure to the bright screen of the gadgets used. All-in-all, Social Media websites can be both good and bad depending on how you use it. I believe there is a time for everything and when the time is ripe in the future, I would create an account for myself to be able to reap the benefits of technology that is available to all.

I do not have social media of any kind, but I have friends and family members who do. I believe, for those you uses it responsibly, social media helps them express themselves. It also lets them communicate with relatives and friends even if that certain friend is not physically there. In the busy world that we live in people tend to get very lonely. It helps when they could relate with others through social networking sites. I cannot confidently say that I will not create a social media account in the future, but for now I won’t. One reason is that I know myself to be easily distracted. Another reason is that I do not want my self-esteem to be based on how many likes I get from my post. I agree completely especially with "self-esteem to be based on how many likes one get from a post". Some people just care about the likes. And they don't even know who might be liking their post. A stalker, a pervert, a creepy acquaintance you only met once, who knows? So what's so important about getting plenty of likes, nothing but a false sense of security.

In this day and age, it is no question that this my generation's life revolves mostly around the Internet, especially through social media. Through the social media, we can see our friend's and family's photos, videos, and posts which makes most of our lives accessible on the Internet, where nothing can be deleted. With this "nothing can be deleted" way of thinking, this lets us be more aware of the responsibility we hold for the things we are going to do on the Internet. As some people may not be aware of this, they may just recklessly respond in a very disrespectful manner or in a way that doesn't put themselves in a good light. With that explanation, I think that social media teaches us responsibility which affected my life in a good way. While we follow people, we obviously get to see whatever they repost, like, and so on and so fourth. On Tumblr., the people that I followed ended up putting some wayward posts about feminism, racism and etc. on my dashboard which eventually led up to me being more knowledgeable, updated, and informed on what is happening in the Philippines and of course, the other countries. With us getting exposed to more things on the Internet, where sometimes, there are no boundaries, this may lead us to knowing more that what we should as sometimes, the content that we see isn't filtered to suit our age. With this being said, social media presence affects my life by helping me being able to be more informed and updated about things that may come up in a conversation. With that, I see having social media accounts as beneficial as it helps you to know more about the people's point of view about things. "it helps you to know more about people's point of view about things." I always wondered how having an social media account was like...

In my opinion, as a grade 8 student, social media accounts both have its advantages and disadvantages. It can affect my life in many ways depending on what actions I choose to do such as affecting me positively if I choose to use it wisely and negatively if I do not. It affects my life by making myself learn to be more responsible, careful, social, generous and helpful. As of now, it benefits me more than it harms by allowing me to communicate with the modern things and the people around me but there might come a time wherein it shall harm me in which I must be careful and prepared. In my own experience, social media teaches me many values wherein I can benefit and learn from them. As for others, not all of them may be able to absorb the "hidden" lessons in which social media tries to teach us depending on if they choose to see it and absorb this knowledge. As I have said, social media can affect us in many ways. As a daughter, my social media presence can help me communicate with my parents when they are abroad or far away and it can also help me bond with my parents in a way that they get to talk to me when I need to explain or clarify items for them that are technologically advanced.
As a friend, my social media presence allows me to communicate with my friends and also helps me have a stronger bond with them even by just simply chatting online. As a student, my social media presence allows me to understand my teachers and classmates better and also allows me to be aware of the things happening around me in school which can help in excelling my academic performance. Some of the observations I see from my friends and family with social media accounts are them posting irrelevant comments and information simply to get attention from others but at times I can see them using social media accounts for information, support and communication. I would try to create a social media account in the future but I will keep in mind that I must use these wisely such as for communication and social purposes and that I must follow the saying "think before you click". On the other hand, social media has also the big disadvantage of being socially insensitive as a student, daughter, friend or as a person in general. Although social media has the word "social" in it and that its intention is to help us be more sociable, it actually reduces the essence of being sociable because you are literally talking to the computer and not directly talking to the person you are having a conversation with. This is one of the reasons why the social media should not be relied on completely. Talking directly or personally to others is still best.

My life evolves around social media. Social media is like my second home, I get to be myself in my accounts. Social media benefits me because I get to know what is happening around me when someone shares a video or a link. It benefits me because I get to know what's new on the internet and helps me to updates 24/7. Social media teaches me to be sensitive because because what I post is what defines me as a person like if I post mean things then that reflects to my personality.
As a friend it helps me to connect with my friends and keep in touch when they are on the other side of the world. As a student, it helps me to keep up with my homework and helps me search on things when I don't understand something. As a daughter, it helps me to communicate with my family when they are away because of work or they are busy doing the things they have to do.

In the modern era, having a social media presence is something that defines my generation. Having such a presence is important for me because it opens my mind to new ideas, such as feminism and awareness. It has benefitted me with such because I allow myself to be open to such ideas and statements, and nothing is technically wrong with that. Social responsibility can be shown when one would make friends with someone who is a million miles away, right on their computer/smartphone screens, or when they start a chat on a common interest with someone. On Instagram and Tumblr, I really felt welcome there since there were many other girls who had similar interests to mine. On the other hand, it has taught me to be a bit insensitive at times, especially when someone would disturb me while online. I tend to use 'po', 'opo', 'please', and 'thank you' less ever since I created my online presence. Social media presence is something that is completely inevitable in today's times, especially if it's evident everywhere. It affects me as a daughter because there are many things online my parents have never even bothered to talk about, which made me question my parents' trust in me. As a friend, I've become more sensitive, especially since I have some friends with depression, etc. and I now know what to expect from them and how to help. Lastly, as a student, I've learned that the real classroom isn't the only "classroom". One can learn things online that they don't in schools, like how one can learn things that aren't taught or spoken of. In conclusion, social media's presence has created an impact on my life, and it will continue to in the next years of my life. I agree with all of the things you've said. Social media has many advantages and disadvantages and can be used in many ways. Also, it can affect lives in different manners. I especially got inspired by your statements which was about social media being inevitable nowadays and about learning things just by ourselves. Keep it up!

I agree with you. Most people tend to get influenced by social media both in positive and negative ways. Although it can harm and benefit us, it depends on what we choose to do with it and what we choose to follow. Good observation!

As a Grade 8 student, having social media accounts affect my life in a way that sometimes, I spend more time in front of the computer screen, talking to my internet friends, instead of making new friends personally. And having social media accounts kind of change the way how I talk or write sometimes. Frequently used abbreviations like "bc," "brb," or "ttyl" are sometimes included in the words I say in real life or the words I use when I write random stories and poems on my free time. It disturbs me that this kind of language is gradually becoming part of my vocabulary, since it's not really what we need in life, generally. And because in everything people do, whether it would be work or school, formal language is mostly needed. In my opinion, social media has a bad effect on me, and at the same time, it benefits me. Because in social media, we could learn things we can't learn at school. Like sensitivity, it's not necessarily part of the lessons we take up at school, it's normally learned by ourselves or mistakes; but it actually doesn't stop there. Just simply respecting other users' opinions and insights in social media is already a way of showing our sensitivity. And when using social media, there will always be that period wherein other users might misinterpret what we say. For example in Twitter, there are the usual Twitter fights between an individual and another, this commonly happens between celebrities, and when this happens, they learn from their mistakes and they suddenly become a more responsible user in the end.
If you ask me, social media does teach me social responsibility. It might not be directly, but indirectly, it does; through past mistakes. Just like what I said a while ago, it mainly teaches us the right way to treat people, though not only through the screen, but also in real life situations. When we accidentally say something in social media (for example: Facebook) we don't mean, and that person gets offended, it teaches us how to be more sensitive next time we talk or chat with people. It basically tells us that we should think before we click; and if used on real life situations, think before we talk.
As a daughter and as a sibling to my older brothers and sisters, it affects me, though not really in a good way. Because as to what one of them said, "I seldom see you bonding with us and I noticed that sometimes you spend more time on Twitter than with the family," and it just clicked to me in that very moment that she was right. Ever since I made a Twitter account, it affected my relationship with my family and I somehow got "distanced" from them, since I got too attached to seeing the latest updates of my favorite bands, singers, etc. on Twitter, or waiting for the notifications from that account that gives out free DM's (Direct Messages) to different celebrities. So if I'm going to be completely honest, social media did greatly affect my bond with my family too.

I've had social media networking sites for quite some time. I've had facebook, twitter, instagram, snapchat and all those popular social media sites. I was given freedom, freedom to do anything online without my parents knowing, well to be honest I was given too much freedom. I thought everything that I was doing online was normal, I thought everyone did those stuff that I did, but that thought was wrong, very wrong. I mishandled my freedom and I was too selfish, I was only thinking about how I feel and not what my parents would. I was posting too much even when my parents told me to stop I still did it. I didn't realize that I was abusing that freedom that was given to me. I turned to be the person my parents feared me to be.
My parents didn't allow me to use facebook because they said that strangers could talk to me there, and infact people did. I didn't follow them and when they found out they were furious. But I couldn't leave my instagram account, it was too precious, I put a lot of my time, hardwork, and dedication in there so I made a deal with my parents that I would have to let them check my account all the time and that I can only use it three times a week. I'm very greatful for them, for them giving me a second chance to change and prove myself once more and I'm very very happy for that. Now I've got limited freedom, but I'm happy, very happy. I get to spend more time with my family and we got closer to each other now. I have learned a lot from this experience like, follow your parents because they know what's best for you, everything that's too much is a bad thing, you must work hard before you earn.

I mean I couldn't imagine a person answering this that doesn't actually have a social media account. Everything that you wrote are all so true. A lot of people delete their posts that doesn't have much like, because they think that whatever they put in that post is ugly, but it's not. I mean your beauty isn't in that post, it's in you. What that post is and how many likes that post gets isn't going to change who you are.

I really agree with everything that you said, that there are a lot of bad things going on in the cyber-world, but remember that everything has a good side and a bad side. There are also a lot of benefits like if you missed the homework you can talk through the internet. Well, not all people get sick because of staying up too late, they're probably just the people who stay late for an apparent reason like me right now staying up late to homeworks, but I'm sure majority of social media users don't stay up too late that their bodies can handle. You know even if you don't have social media sites it's still better to have real friends, like the ones you can actually touch and feel, rather than having internet friends that you're not even sure how they look like in person. But all in all you're correct about the positivities and negativities of social medias.
