Many of us have a social media presence — a virtual personality made up of status updates, tweets and connections, stored in the cloud. Adam Ostrow asks a big question: What happens to that personality after you've died? Could it ... live on?
As a Grade 8 student, how does having social media accounts affect your life? Does it benefit you more than it harm you or vice versa? Does social media teach you social responsibility or it causes you to be more socially insensitive? How does your social media presence affect you as a daughter, a friend, and a student? If you do not have social media accounts, what some observations do you see from your friends or family with social media accounts? Would you try to create one in the future? These are just some of the few questions that are usually associated in the use of social media sites. Answer these questions in two paragraph. Create your post by replying here. Just click REPLY then type your complete name as Guest Name then write your answer. You will then be directed to a captcha security check.Your answer may be in the form of persuasive (good at persuading someone to do or believe something through reasoning) or informative (providing useful or interesting information).
After creating your own post, wait for your classmates to finish their works so may respond and give comments to they have written. To give comment, choose the post of your classmate then click QUOTE. You may now write your reply to your classmates. You may choose a particular sentence or paragraph to quote from your classmate. You are required to give at least one comment to two of your classmates.
Below is the criteria for grading: Content - 10 Creativity and fluidity of thoughts - 10 Quality of responses to other posts - 5 Impact of write-up - 5 PR: 30
Once you created your own thread, copy the link and submit using the Turn-In button in our Edmodo account.
Have fun writing and expressing yourselves!!

Having a social media account affects people in many different ways but it really depends on what type of person you are. Social media changes us, in good and bad ways which also depend on how we use social media for ourselves and others. On social media, we have what we call cyber-bullying. Cyber-bullying is a way of threatening and abuse made over the use of internet and websites. Many people have experienced this whether it is as a celebrity or just as a person who was persuaded by their friends to make a social media account. In my opinion, I had never experienced cyber-bullying but I know that it could be as small as calling people names to threatening them to even go far and kill themselves. It benefits me in a decent way because I have actually managed to talk and make friends with people through the internet over the things we like together. In my experience, social media has actually taught me to be aware of things like feminism, racism and many other things that I would have never cared or even thought about. Social media has changed me as a daughter, friend and student by helping me get closer and being able to do things easier because I can simply communicate with people now with just a click. As a Grade 8 student, social media has affected me in a good way because now it is much easier to talk and ask my classmates about what had happened in class if I were absent but it has also affected me in a not so good way by distracting me when I had more important things to do especially if it as about or for school. I personally think that social media could last as long as decades if people just keep using it and even making more websites whether they would be for the good or the bad. And like said by many people, we are the Digital Age. Nothing would be able to stop us from using all these different types of technology whether it would be in the form of a gadget or an internet trend or even a simple post you could find online.

It affects your life in many ways. Well, in my opinion, it harms you more than it benefits you because there are lot of things that may bring danger to you like strangers that could hack your account, strangers asking for your address, money and cellphone number. You may not just harm yourself but you could bring harm to your family, friends and relatives. It actually teaches you to be more responsible because you have to think of what you say in a post that could possibly hurt someone. In some situations, a post that affects someone in a negative way could turn into a big problem in their life. It also teach you to be more responsible because of thinking whether you should give that kind of information to anybody, even someone very close to you because you don't know if someone is hacking that account. Social medias affect me as a daughter because during our family's bonding time, I usually go on social medias most of the time so it's like wasting the bonding time we have. As a friend, the same thing goes with me as a daughter of my parents. As a student, going on social medias waste my time of sleeping so I end up sleeping around midnight. If we all didn't have social medias it would be a big change for all of us. There is a possibility that a majority of us could be fit because instead of going on social medias, people will go and do physical activities instead. The world will also be a better place for all of us because we would bond with families, friends and relatives most of the time and we could also avoid negativity caused by social medias.

Having a social media account can affect people in different ways either its good or bad.Social media changes people they could be more connected to friends and family or they'd be more of a mean person, gossiping, creating rumors, etc.People can change because of social media it really depend on what he/she reads.Social media to us is a way of entertainment, a way to past the time, etc. that's why we show something we read to friends.People post things that can affect whoever reads them; it's really what they post that's important. Social media for me and how it affects my life is not that much, I rarely believe some of the things I read.People believe what they see and hear that is why people get affected by social media. My family and me have fun when browsing the internet; it connects us more as a family.Friends talk to each other via facebook, twitter, etc. but we could use this as a negative thing to others. We could use this to our advantage it's either good or bad; it really depends on your intentions.I think that social media does change a persons perspective with friends or family or life itself.

Social media has changed me in a lot of ways.In my case, social media can sometimes be a form of distraction or a form of learning. As I stated earlier, it comes in two opposing forms but most of the times, I benefit from it. Through social media, I can talk to long-distant friends or relatives through a web-cam instantly . Besides it giving me an easier time with communication, I learn more ways, tips and advises on how to use networks more intelligently through the influence brought by the people I usually see on my account timeline. I go through it daily and the people usually post relevant and smart content I actually learn new details from. Though sometimes, horrible content is posted, I do not let it occupy my mind. I focus on the good and positive things I saw. As a daughter, my social media accounts do not affect my responsibilities because I know my limits.
I know when I can use it and I know when to stop even without my parents warning me to do so. As a friend, having social media is a big help because I can ask for help anytime from them. As a student, it's the same with how it affects me as a daughter and at some points social media has helped me with school, specifically in passing homeworks. All in all, social media is very essential for me. If it never existed, communicating would be a lot harder. Without it, we would be writing letters all the time and before it reaches the person you want to contact, you still have to fill out long forms just to do so and the letter usually reaches the receiver after a long time unlike social media, after you click the enter button, the message has been sent in less than five seconds. All you need to do while using your accounts is to apply what you've learned about social media etiquette and you're good to go!

Having social media account affects people in different ways it just depends if it is good or bad and how much that post affects you.I think social media harms you more than it benefits you because there are more things that could harm while using social media like cyber-bullying,random strangers that ask personal questions and getting hacked or spammed. Also because there is a study that more students like my age that are gets bullied more by using the social media than physically. And also its not just students and regular people gets harmed using the internet, also celebrities because some people probably get jealous or because they became popular that's why they give mean comments to them. For my opinion I think social media teaches me more about social responsibility because first, you should be aware on what are you clicking, posting or whatever action your doing while using the internet. And because you should think what could happened if you post this or that. Social media presence affects me as a daughter and as a friend in a good way because I can communicate with them anytime. And also social media presence also affects me as a student also in a good way because I can learn more ideas using the social media like life hacks, DIY'S, daily news and interesting facts.

Social media can be either harmful or beneficial—it depends on how you look at it. On one hand, social media can be harmful because it exposes you to inappropriate material such as usage of bad words, vanity, cyber-bullying and the like. When the youth are exposed to such ideas and images, their minds will be open to thinking that such behavior is acceptable, which will encourage them to follow and act in the same way. Doing so will harm their innocence and challenge their values.
On the other hand, one can also benefit from using social media. The existence of social media became a powerful tool in strengthening relationships, may it be with your family, friends, or relatives, by making communicating with easy and convenient. It allows you to connect and be updated with your loved ones, wherever they are and at whatever time of the day. Social media provided the means for you to be more aware and to be well informed of what is happening within society, not only locally but globally as well.
I don’t have any social media account at present but understanding the harm and benefits brought about by social media will help me to be more mindful of what I do in social media, if ever I decide to create an account in the future.
I believe that the positive or negative effect of social media relies on how a person uses it, therefore we have to be responsible on our usage of social media. We have to be careful and mindful of what we say and do in social media in order to influence others to use social media for a meaningful purpose.

Having social media accounts could affect our life in several different ways, good or bad. There are disadvantages and advantages of having a social media account. Some disadvantages would include cyber-bullying, distraction from studies, losing the ability to communicate and interact face to face, and being exposed to inappropriate content which could influence one's thinking and values. Without having the proper knowledge about Internet Etiquette, the digital environment of the said individual may be rather unruly and unbecoming of the standards Miriam College provides for its students.
Apart from the disadvantages of having a social media account, there are also advantages. Some of which are bringing loved ones together, improving the individual's social life, an easy way to maintain connections, and it being an easily accessible educational tool for pupils. The vast breadth of the internet enables people to connect with their loved ones living as far as continents away. It also gives us ease in conversing with peers in any given situation. But most importantly, a platform for our learning community to build upon and develop is provided by all the knowledge already stored in the internet, making it easier for this generation of more technologically advanced individuals to attain a higher level of intellect as the previous one.
I believe that social media could affect us in both good and bad ways, relying on how we use it. We should use social media correctly and be aware of our actions in order to influence others about the responsible use of ICT.

As a grade 8 student social media can affect our life in many different ways but it will depend on the person's discipline. In my opinion, having social media accounts can harm us more than it can benefit us. The only benefits of having a social media accounts for me are we can have easy communication to our friends, classmates or to any person we want to talk to. Having social media accounts can also help us be updated to news worldwide or nationwide or what is trending at the moment. The harms of having a social media accounts for me are that it can be a distraction to our studies or to our responsibilities. We will be having a hard time socializing in real life since we are used to talking using chats. We might lose our privacy if we are hacked or if do not think first before we put our personal information.
Social media does not necessarily teaches people to be insensitive but most people forget their discipline and values for the reason they can say anything they want without consideration of others. People does not think about what they will say since freedom of expression is promoted in social media. As a student and friend, social media is a means of communication to my classmates and friends if they are having a hard time in a particular subject or they are having a problem in life, I can easily communicate to them. Lastly as a daughter it helps me apply the values my parents taught me. Social media taught me to be responsible of my actions.
