Many of us have a social media presence — a virtual personality made up of status updates, tweets and connections, stored in the cloud. Adam Ostrow asks a big question: What happens to that personality after you've died? Could it ... live on?
As a Grade 8 student, how does having social media accounts affect your life? Does it benefit you more than it harm you or vice versa? Does social media teach you social responsibility or it causes you to be more socially insensitive? How does your social media presence affect you as a daughter, a friend, and a student? If you do not have social media accounts, what some observations do you see from your friends or family with social media accounts? Would you try to create one in the future? These are just some of the few questions that are usually associated in the use of social media sites. Answer these questions in two paragraph. Create your post by replying here. Just click REPLY then type your complete name as Guest Name then write your answer. You will then be directed to a captcha security check.Your answer may be in the form of persuasive (good at persuading someone to do or believe something through reasoning) or informative (providing useful or interesting information).
After creating your own post, wait for your classmates to finish their works so may respond and give comments to they have written. To give comment, choose the post of your classmate then click QUOTE. You may now write your reply to your classmates. You may choose a particular sentence or paragraph to quote from your classmate. You are required to give at least one comment to two of your classmates.
Below is the criteria for grading: Content - 10 Creativity and fluidity of thoughts - 10 Quality of responses to other posts - 5 Impact of write-up - 5 PR: 30
Once you created your own thread, copy the link and submit using the Turn-In button in our Edmodo account.
Have fun writing and expressing yourselves!!

As a grade 8 student social media affects my life in a bad way.Social media is a benefit to me and to many other people but at times does harm to my studies and such. Social media can be used in many ways it can teach you many things so yes of course it does teach me responsibility online. As a daughter, friend, and student many people actually ask me ''how does social media affect you?.'' I would usually say that as a student for example it affects me in my studies it disturbs me when I review and memorize, it tempts me to stop studying.
In my generation a lot have social media accounts so I too have one but to answer the question ''what are my observations of other people that have social media accounts?'' to me like my family members and fellow frends some are not really interested with social media but most of them are very active online. My sisters are always on instagram and it isn't good because it keeps them from having bonding time with the family as for my friends some are just too sucked in that they forget about their studies. To answer the question ''would you make one in the future?'' yes of course I would because I think I would be forced to make one due to studies or I would be jealous because almost everyone has one. Social media helps a lot in studies but having to much just brings you down. So to sum up social media is good but to much would be bad and I think it would last a lifetime.

As a grade 8 student having a social media account affects my life in a bad way; though it does benefit me but at some point it did harm me. having any connections through the social media could teach you anything at any time and for me it taught me to be socially responsible on and off the internet knowing it could lead me to danger. as a student, the social medial presence affect me by honestly making me very lazy especially with copying what we need to do at home. as a friend it helps me in a quite better way making it easy for me to defend my friends who get bullied and to raise awareness for the bad doings the others do. As a daughter it doesn't affect me as good as the others since it pules me out of talking to my relatives and interacting with them.
I am the youngest among everyone in the household there for i was the east updated person and I've observed that while eating we wouldn't talk to each other but they'd tap away updating their status on both twitter and facebook so what i could say is that they've become anti-social and even put their social media accounts first before family and food.No i didn't want to make one because i didn't want to not have a social life but I honestly didn't want to be left out and just sitting there doing nothing acting like nobody was with me even if my whole family was there, so as soon as got my phone i made accounts on every social media i could find even if i didn't necessarily needed and know them and i did all of that just to fit in. like most people they'd want to get with the trends and they most especially don't want to be left out. To sum everything up Having a connection to any social media is both good and bad for people and saying our social media accounts could last for a long time but soon it would delete everything slowly until nothing is left but a distant memory of our accounts.

As a Grade 8 student, having social media account have advantages, and of course disadvantages. Social media, harms me more than benfits me actually. Like for an example, I am suppose to research something for my homework, but ending up on going to other websites, that I like to visit during my freetime. Social media, doesn't make me to be insensitve to people, but it does make me to forget what are my responsibilities. Since I'm the oldest I tend to be lazy, when I put first the thing that I like before the things that I need to do. A a student I forget the things that I do becuase I'm always distracted.
Like I said, there are advantages and disadvantages of having social media accounts. If we do not have social media accounts, we cannot communicate well, with people far away from us, like people working in abroad. Almost all of my family member like my cousins and relatives have social media accounts and yes I also have one too.

Even as we age, social media would still be powerful, even as time passes

As a grade 8 student social media affects my life in a good and bad way. Social media is a benefit to me but sometimes can harm me at times because it can cause as a distraction to my studies and priorities in my life. Social media is used in many ways and it can teach us important things so i say that it can teach us responsibility's online. As a daughter, friend and student social media affects mostly my personality and my priorities with school, family, and friends.
In my observation I could see that many of my friends would be too attached to their social media accounts and sometimes forget to socialize, same with some of my family members especially those who are still in a young age. Well recently I do have social media accounts and i try to lessen the use of it because now that school is going on and there are too many home works, requirements, tests and more I do have to focus and concentrate. To sum this all up social media benefits us in so many ways, we have responsibility's online and it teaches us so many things, but we should also know our limits so it won't harm our grades in school and our relationship with friends and family members.

Although they're not used often, I have several social media accounts. As a Grade 8 student, I think social media has more bad effects than good effects. First of all, social media can help you learn social sensitivity and responsibility online, but it most of the time displays unacceptable behavior against the core values of our school. Other than that, it is a good way to do research for assignments, but can tempt you to visit sites inappropriate for your age and even lose track of what you're supposed to be prioritizing. Another effect of social media is that you can share and document your precious moments of happiness with friends and family, but most people aren't careful about what they post. This could lead to cyberbullying and could lead others to depression, self-harm and suicide.
One thing I am guilty of concerned with social media is forgetting to study or do projects/homework because of different social media accounts. Honestly, I don't think any significant effects are evident when I use social media, especially in my studies and social life. Since I prevented myself from using social media every single hour of the day, and letting my phone be the center of my life, I've made more friends, gotten higher grades, and developed deeper relationships with close friends. It also encouraged me to participate more in extracurricular activities.
I definitely think we should lessen our use of social media, as it has more bad effects as opposed to the good effects. There are many more fulfilling things we overlook that could really benefit our physical, emotional, and social life.

I agree with your statement about sitting at the dinner table with your family and seeing them not interested in family bonding, but updating their social media accounts, and I find it unfortunate. I think social media affects our family's lives as much as our own social lives, and it could destroy our relationship with our family.

Nowadays most people say that they "can't live without internet" and I think that definitely has to change.

I've noticed that most of my batch mates or classmates, friends and even family members or relatives who are younger than me even already has Facebook, Instagram, and so many more social networking sites. My mom told me she got Facebook at the age of 18 back in her time and thinks I should get my own account in that specific time or age also. But sometimes I just think "I want my own now since everyone in my class has one." Or sometimes "Since my friends have one already, I should get one too." But in my perspective, due to how I see it, I think having your own social media account is important at the same time it’s not. It’s important to have one well in these cases since I am still a student we need these sites because it can be used for emergencies like for homework, group project discussions or forums that have to be communicated using these kinds of sites, discussion of reminders from the teachers, and many more school-related works. On the other hand, in the negative side of having these sites is when oneself or when one is too "addicted" to the social networking sites that he/she does not focus well anymore in studies, does not communicate properly anymore with anybody (example: does not talk to their parents once he/she gets home and just locks oneself in their room for hours just using the sites nonstop), does not become socially active in real life (like in school, public, etc.), can start having low self-esteem or low confidence socially or mentally and many more disadvantages due to having these kinds of social networks.
Like what I said earlier, having these kinds of sites are really helpful yet harmful in our lives and can change how we think about everything we see everyday. Most times yes, I am tempted to make my own account without even telling my parents but sometimes I always ponder to myself "am I ready with having one of these things in my life like all my friends?" or sometimes "am I ready with the responsibilities of having a social network account?"

The phenomenon of social networking has taken today’s youth culture by storm. At the same time, it has raised serious concerns among the parents of these tech-savvy teens.
I also have social media accounts and it has affected me positively and negatively. Using social media accounts have advantages and disadvantages.
What are the benefits? Social networking is an extension of teens’ real-world friendships. It helps them enrich and manage their social lives. Socializing online can give shy, socially awkward teens a comfortable way to communicate -- one that’s less intimidating than meeting face-to-face. This can boost their self-esteem and help them practice their social skills. Teens with unusual interests or hobbies find kindred spirits online, giving them a place to share information and enthusiasm. Kids who have disabilities or other challenges can communicate with other teens with similar problems. This lessens their sense of isolation and allows for mutual support.
What are the risks? Online bullying and harassment by peers, also known as cyberbullying. This may be the biggest online danger to kids. It’s often an extension of bullying that takes place at school but can be just as damaging, if not more so. Learn more about cyberbullying. Online predators. While being harassed or stalked online by adult predators is far less common than cyberbullying, any incident is one too many. Less face-to-face interaction with family and friends. Researchers are studying the effect of this trend on kids’ social development, but the long-term effects aren’t yet known.
As a Grade 8 stuudent, I must socialize safely online. Using social media can be useful and also harmful but we must be very careful in using it.
